I had already been on many backpacking trips before I discovered my now favorite piece of gear – the butt-pad.
It’s just an old cross section cut off of a foam Thermarest that I picked up in a hiker box along the Appalachian Trail. I never thought I needed a butt-pad until I had one! Now it goes with me everywhere and has so many uses and can’t weigh more than a few ounces! It’s great to have something dry and relatively soft to sit on for breaks throughout the day, during dinner on the trail or extra padding under me at night.
