In my early twenties, I learned that Murphy’s law also applies to rain gear. It seemed every time I didn’t carry it, it rained and every time I did carry it, I had sunny skies. Now as an adventure teacher, I get asked by my students, “What is the one thing I should spend money on for the outdoors?” My answer every time is a good set of rain gear. It will keep you dry, it keeps the wind and the elements out, and it gives you the emergency shelter part of the ten essentials. I never go without mine.
