Gloves or Mittens?

I am a novice skier who is looking at getting some new gear for the upcoming season. Do most people prefer gloves or mittens?

Personally, I prefer a "good" pair of gloves. I know that people say that mittens are warmer, but I don't like the loss of dexterity. If your hands tend to get cold and you don't mind some restrictions, then go with mittens.

One other thing to keep in mind is the "cost for warmth". Cheap mittens will keep your hands dramatically warmer than cheap gloves.

@Daniel Milligan Great point Dan and everyone else for the feedback. I just bought a new pair of gloves for the impending ski season!

I always use gloves but my hands usually stay pretty warm. I have occasionally used hand warmers.

I like gloves most of the time, but my hands get cold pretty easily so this time of the year I usually bring mittens too

Gloves are my choice, due to the dexterity and functionality. There are pretty high tech gloves these days too which can keep your hands/fingers warm down to very cold temperatures.

Gloves are my preference until the temperature drops to near zero. Then nothing keeps the fingers warm like a good pair of mittens. Above that, the dexterity and ability to use all your digits just cant be beat with a good pair of gloves

Living in Maine, I have been through many hand socks. I would go with gloves; they allow you to have the full range of movement with your fingers.
